Police report

When a cyberbully crosses the line and commits a criminal offense against you (e.g., threats, harassment…), even if it happened outside school hours, you can notify a school official to help stop the situation quickly.

Additionally, your school administration can assist you if you wish to report the incidents to the police. This ensures your safety and stops the offense. If the issue occurs outside of school, you should contact the police to protect yourself and anyone involved.

Meet the police

Police officers are there to listen to you without judgment and to help you. They will take the time to understand the situation thoroughly, and if a criminal offense has been committed against you, your account will be recorded in writing. This will serve as evidence for the upcoming judicial process. You should also provide all relevant documents, such as photos or social media conversations. Taking screenshots to preserve evidence is recommended. 

Your account and the severity of the offense will determine the police response. They might, for example, arrest the cyberbully immediately to ensure your safety. 

The next steps will be clearly explained by the police, and they will remain available if you have further questions. You will also receive free support from a CAVAC (Crime Victims Assistance Center) worker, who will accompany you throughout the proceedings.

Police officers and CAVAC workers will assist you in regaining your sense of security quickly and putting an end to the cyberbullying behavior permanently. If you want more information, you can speak to a school counselor or the school police officer. This will help you make an informed decision and choose the best course of action for you.
